On the Road Bookshop is located in the heart of historic Collinsville in an old building that once housed The Collins Axe Company. We have 25+ years of experience in buying and selling used and rare books and belong to Southern New England Antiquarian Booksellers association.
We buy attractive copies of classics : Jane Austen, Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe, the Brontes, Dante, Sherlock Holmes, Alice in Wonderland, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Stoker’s Dracula, and J. R. R. Tolkien, just to name a few.
We also love interesting, quirky, or scholarly non-fiction, including but not limited to : local history, genealogy, American history, transportation (cars, trains, etc.), science, natural history, and philosophy. We avidly seek art books, particularly monographs of mid-to late 20th century artists.
Handwritten diaries, letters, and documents are always of interest, as are photographs, maps, scrap books, and bookplates.
Books we usually avoid : anything published by a magazine (National Geographic, Time Life, Readers’ Digest, etc.); modern thriller fiction (James Patterson, Stuart Woods, etc.); book club editions; romance novels; textbooks unless they were published quite recently; books that get outdated quickly : health, finance, computers,
We do make house calls for large collections. Before we come please review your collection and put aside anything you don’t want to part with. Also have relatives & friends take any they want. You don’t need to completely rearrange your books; using stickie notes might be enough to make it clear what’s available & what’s off limits for me. I will bring boxes and do all the heavy lifting.
We buy books by appointment & are available most days at our Collinsville office.
